Dental Bridges

If you are missing one or more teeth, dental bridges may be the best solution for restoring your smile, and allowing you to speak, chew, and smile properly. Today’s dental bridges are less expensive than dental implants, and are made out of porcelain to provide a natural, attractive restoration. At Perfect Choice Dental, Dr. Overmyer is an experienced restorative and cosmetic dentist. Whether you’re interested in dentures, dental bridges, or dental implants to restore your missing teeth, our team can help.

What Are Dental Bridges?

As the name suggests, dental bridges literally “bridge” the gap made by one or more missing teeth. This is achieved by placing porcelain crowns on the two healthy teeth on either side of your missing tooth. These teeth are known as “abutment teeth”. With the crowns, the bridge is attached permanently and can restore the natural appearance of your teeth. This helps you avoid the negative consequences of tooth loss, such as shifting teeth and jaw deterioration.

How Are Dental Bridges Made And Placed?

After Dr. Overmyer has confirmed that you are a good candidate for a dental bridge, he will prepare the abutment teeth for dental crowns. This preparation provides a solid platform upon which the crowns and dental bridge can be placed.

Then, impressions of your teeth and mouth are made, and sent to a third-party lab. There, the dental crowns, bridgework, and artificial tooth (or teeth) will be manufactured. After these impressions are taken, a temporary spacer and caps are placed to protect your abutment teeth and hold the gap until you come back for your second appointment.

It usually takes at least 2 weeks to manufacture a dental bridge. When your bridge arrives at Perfect Choice Dental, we’ll schedule you for your second appointment. During this visit, Dr. Overmyer will check the bridge for fit, finish, and proper quality. Minor adjustments can be made to ensure a perfect fit.

The bridge is then permanently attached. Dental adhesive is used to bond both crowns onto the abutment teeth, completing the placement of the prosthesis.
